Empathy in a world of loneliness

In a modern society where humans no longer live in small, tight-knit groups and isolation is on the rise, loneliness has been identified as a major public health issue. In this discussion morning, we will look at what it means to be lonely, examine our own experiences of loneliness, and look at new ways in which people can reconnect with each other, thinking especially about the role of empathy. We will also examine the role of the Church in tackling loneliness and reducing isolation.

Pastries, coffee, and tea are provided. Discussion is sparked by a variety of stimuli, including paintings, poems, questions, and short quotations. We split into small groups for a morning of lively conversation on a range of challenging topics.
