Composed in 1765 to a playful mythological libretto by Pietro Metastasio, La corona was originally intended for performance by four Viennese Archduchesses and glories in the sensuous beauty and virtuosity of the soprano voice. Four determined young women bravely hunt and slaughter a ferocious wild boar, an unwelcome visitor to a tranquil land - a story which can be reimagined as an allegory of hope for our own troubled times. An outstanding cast includes Lucy Anderson, first prize-winner of the 2019 Bampton Young Singers’ Competition.
