Dvorak's Symphony No. 7
Oxford Chamber Orchestra, Saturday 24th October at 7.30pm
Conductor Cayenna Ponchione-Bailey.
The concert opens with the Nocturne by Morfydd Owen, a Welsh composer who deserves to be far better known. It's a gorgeous, atmospheric piece and the perfect curtain-raiser.
Then Marianna Martines' Piano Concerto in G, performed by pianist Idith Korman. Martines was an 18th-century composer, pianist, and singer who studied with Haydn and was celebrated across Europe in her lifetime. This is a chance to hear her work given the performance it deserves.
After the interval, Dvořák's Symphony No. 7. If you know the New World Symphony, this is its darker, more intense sibling. It's one of the great symphonies and we can't wait to play it.
Tickets are £18 (adult) / £14 (concession). Under 18s are free when accompanied by an adult.
