Music is at the heart of the spiritual life of University Church. We also have one of the best mixed-voice choirs in Oxford. The church provides a stunning setting for recitals and concerts. With its famous Metzler organ and a new concert-grand Blüthner piano, the church now offers two of the finest keyboard instruments in the city.
The University Church welcomes international ensembles to Oxford each year. Recent performances have included The Sixteen, the Aurora Orchestra, Mark Padmore and Roger Vignoles, Christopher Maltman and Malcolm Martineau, Graham Johnson, and the Oxford Early Music Festival.
Through music, the church engages with the local community. In recent years, the University Church has run music workshops with primary schools in the city. In 2013, we brought together artists, designers, singers and instrumentalists for performances of Benjamin Britten’s community opera Noye’s Fludde.
