Christmas Services 2022

By
The Revd Dr William Lamb

Come and be part of our Christmas celebrations where there is something for everyone.

Christmas speaks of a God who comes among us and embraces our humanity, sharing our hopes and fears, our vulnerability and our joy. This is the mystery of 'the Word made flesh' described in John's Gospel. In using this phrase, John is telling us that the entire self-utterance of God is disclosed to us in the arresting cry of a tiny child. This is the awe-inspiring and extraordinary mystery at the heart of the doctrine of the incarnation, mysterium tremendum et fascinans.

CHRISTMAS SERVICES 2022

Crib Service (Saturday 24 December, 4.00pm)

Come and join in the colour and wonder of the story of the nativity. We will sing some much loved and familiar Christmas carols. This service lasts for just 40 minutes and is suitable for families with children of all ages.

Midnight Mass (Saturday 24 December, 11.30pm)

In the darkness of the night, the Light is disclosed to us in the Word made flesh. Experience the drama and the beauty of Christmas with candles, well-known carols, choral music, incense and the blessing of the crib. Doors open at 10.45pm. Carol singing before the service starts from 11.15pm. The service will last for approximately one hour. The preacher will be the Revd Hannah Cartwright.

Christmas Day (Sunday 25 December, 8.30am and 10.30am)

At 8.30am, there will be a said Eucharist in the Chancel. This quiet and dignified half hour service marks the beginning of Christmas Day. It is particularly suited for those who may be travelling later in the morning or have other commitments that day. At 10.30am, there will be a Choral Eucharist in the nave. This is a joyful celebration for the whole family with much-loved carols, choral music, incense and the lighting of the final candle on the Advent Wreath. The service will last for just over an hour. The preacher will be the Revd Dr William Lamb, the Vicar.

Everyone is welcome at our services whether you are a regular worshipper, an occasional visitor or just thinking of joining us for the first time. Everything is prepared for you, everything is ready for you. We would love to see you.

We wish you a very happy Christmas!
