O Worship the Lord in the Beauty of Holiness
On Sunday we give thanks for the life of the University Church as we mark our Feast of Dedication.. Various histories of St Mary’s tell us that the church was consecrated on two different occasions, and for many years the church celebrated two Dedication Festivals. These days we make do with just the one! Nevertheless, our joy and delight in the beauty and wonder of this building is just as great. It is a place that bears witness to the lives of martyrs and saints. It speaks of Christian witness and lives of holiness. whenever we come into this building our hearts should sing with that same desire to bear witness to Christian truth and to imitate the life of Christ.
Rose Macaulay, one of the great Anglican novelists, described church buildings as an “argument made manifest”. That argument is revealed in that same combination of witness and holiness. We hope that you will come and join us to celebrate our dedication festival this Sunday.
