Opus 48 Choir concert - The Armed Man
Opus 48 opens its 2025–26 season with a concert of powerful and deeply moving choral music. At its heart lies Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace — a modern masterpiece whose message of reconciliation feels as urgent today as when it was written. Combining ancient liturgy, military rhythms and moments of aching tenderness, this is a work that speaks directly to the human spirit.
The programme also includes Bob Chilcott’s Nidaros Jazz Mass, an exuberant and uplifting fusion of sacred text and jazz harmony, and Henryk Górecki’s Miserere, a haunting choral prayer of almost meditative intensity. Together, these three works create a journey from anguish to hope, from dissonance to serenity.
Performed by Opus 48 with ensemble, this concert promises to be one of the season’s most compelling experiences — music that moves from the rawness of conflict to the healing power of peace, and from darkness into light.
