Burkina Faso: Finding Stability in Conflict
Burkina Faso: Finding Stability in Conflict
Sunday 15 June | 12noon - 1.00pm | Old Library
Burkina Faso is one of the poorest countries in the world, with more than 40% of the population living in poverty. The country also remains one of the most vulnerable, impacted by climate change, armed conflict and political instability. Throughout the country, record numbers of people are being forced to flee their homes and livelihoods - according to government sources, almost 1.9 million people are internally displaced, including 940,000 children (December 2022). This equates to just under 10% of the country’s 22.1 million people. The Centre-North and Sahel regions are especially at risk, and a humanitarian crisis is fast unfolding. The University Church is partnering with Christian Aid to empower 10,000 households in these regions to rise out of poverty. Join Al Dutton, who has recently returned from Burkina Faso, to learn more about its most vulnerable populations and their search for stability in conflict.
