Henfrey-Spitalfields Composition Competition Final

St Catherine’s College is proud to announce the the 2025-26 Henfrey-Spitalfields Composition Prize. Open to students and recent graduates of the University of Oxford, entrants will compete for a £1,000 cash prize, as well as the all-new opportunity to premiere their work at the Spitalfields Music Festival next July.

On Friday 29th May, the final four pieces will be premiered by Slide Action at the University Church, and the prize winner will be selected at the end of the concert by Toby Young. 

 

 

The Henfrey-Spitalfields Prize 

Established in 2017 by Dr Tony Henfrey, organised by Dr Cayenna Ponchione-Bailey, and enriched by the recent partnership with Spitalfields Music, the Henfrey-Spitalfields Prize offers students a unique opportunity to collaborate with professional musicians and composers, while developing their compositional technique and artistic voice.

Slide Action

Formed in 2018, Slide Action are a multi-award-winning quartet, passionate about creating a new voice for the trombone. They regularly commission music from composers and collaborate with other musicians. They have had multiple competition successes, including winning the 2019 International Trombone Association Quartet & the 2020 Royal Over Seas League Mixed-Ensemble competitions.
