The programme features music from a selection of the many 20th and 21st century British composers who delighted in their rich folk heritage.
A concert celebrating them cannot ignore Vaughan Williams’ contributions, nor Britten’s highly imaginative Flower Songs. Holst’s choral folksong arrangements are an under-recognised gem, and MacMillan’s The Gallant Weaver represents the Scottish composer at his most sumptuous.
