The Vicar and Churchwardens of the University Church are delighted to announce the appointment of the Revd Hannah Cartwright as the new assistant priest at the University Church. She will be licensed by the Bishop of Oxford in September.

The Revd Hannah Cartwright is currently serving as Assistant Curate in Littlemore following her initial formation for priesthood at Ripon College Cuddesdon. Prior to ordination, Hannah undertook training in psychotherapy and worked in third sector communications in the areas of international development, world affairs and education; and in volunteer management for Wycombe Homeless Connection.

In addition to her parish ministry, Hannah currently serves as a Trustee of On Fire Mission, a renewal movement in the Church of England. She is passionate about the renewal of the local church and reimagining worship which builds creatively on the riches of the Anglican tradition.

Hannah is also a Vocations Advisor helping others to discern a call to public ministry. She is a trained spiritual director and enjoys teaching pastoral care and theological reflection.

A member of the LGBTI+ Chaplaincy Oversight Group in the Diocese of Oxford, she is part of the Sacred service team at Christ Church Cathedral. In her spare time, Hannah enjoys singing, walking, cooking, and spending time with her husband, Liam, and their son, James.

The Revd Hannah Cartwright said: ‘I am delighted to be invited to join the team at the University Church of St Mary the Virgin as Assistant Priest, and am very-much looking forward to ministering in this place. One of the greatest gifts of the University Church is its commitment to not only serving the regular congregation, who form the ‘beating heart’ of this church’s life, but also in reaching out to the wider communities of the University and City itself.

I am excited by the opportunity to work with the team in nurturing and building-up the community of St Mary’s through this next season as we seek to welcome tourists, pilgrims and visitors; to learn and grow together, and to share the boundless love of God in new ways within this vibrant, diverse, historic and beautiful City of Oxford.’

We look forward to welcoming Hannah and her family to St Mary's and we look forward to working with her.
